SOWOS - 4th International Symposium – Treatment of Wastewater and Waste on ShipsHandwerkskammer Hamburg
On 12th November 2010, the „4th International Symposium on Treatment of Wastewater and Waste on Ships - SOWOS - “ will take place at Handwerkskammer Hamburg, Holstenwall 12, Germany.
This symposium is a joint project between the Development and Assessment Institute in Waste Water Technology at RWTH-Aachen University (PIA), the Ship Safety Division (BG for Transport and Traffic) and the German Shipowners´ Association (VDR). It will be held at the Handwerkskammer in Hamburg, Germany.
The seas are the largest ecological system of the earth. Seagoing vessels are usually used in longdistance traffic and are not regionally limited. Thus an international, goal-oriented cooperation of all involved parties is required in order to protect the sea.
In previous symposiums about sewage, bilge and ballast water, it has become clear that there is a need for substantial discussion on these topics. Solutions can be created only through the cooperation of all parties involved. SOWOS will provide a room and enable discussions between all parties concerned in an informal meeting.
The 4th Symposium will be broadened by the topics concerning inputs of nutrients in the sea which are responsible for eutrophication and the implementation of the “Marine Strategy Framework Directive” as well as the “EU Water Framework Directive”. SOWOS is a conference for all parties involved (authorities, certifying bodies, constructors, operators, shipowners, ship yards, etc.).
On the evening of 11th November 2010, there will be a "warm-up" at a traditional restaurant in Hamburg.
To highlight the scope of the event, an exhibition open to all manufacturers who wish to present their equipment and technology as exhibitors, will accompany the Symposium.
